Critical infrastructure and utility industries - such as oil and gas, power, chemicals, water, transportation, etc are vital to the society and the national economy; yet they face growing risk from security threats that are doubling every year. Driven by the exponential growth in malware incidents, malicious attacks by hackers, the increased threat of cyber-terrorism, and the substantial impact of insider attacks, organizations are seeking effective means of protecting these systems.

When security for these systems is gauged in terms of the CIA triad, we see that Availability 24/7 has the top most priority. These systems are so ultra sensitive, that an introduction of even a small technology if not applied under apt proficiency, can render a breach in the Availability of these systems. Hence, whilst designing security for these systems, a different methodology is adopted. The technologies are non-invasive in contrast to the invasive ones for the traditional enterprise-wide IT networks.

Keeping the above key issue as the guiding principle, we at Paramount believe that the technologies and professional services to handle risk in such systems must have a holistic approach. Risk Management is such systems should enhance the overall performance of the systems; which ultimately leads to a better throughput from the systems. Risk Management, here is continuous cyclic process; Assessment, Mitigation and Control being the essential elements of the entire process. A technology suite that is pro-active (to assess), detective (to mitigate) and reactive ( to control) would definitely optimise the performance of the system eminently.
